Jean Monnet Module study trip: EU Banking and Finance Law & Policy after NGEU (NGEULaw)

On 27 and 28 March 2023, the students enrolled in the Jean Monnet Module EU Banking and Finance Law & Policy after NGEU (NGEULaw) taught at DCU School of Law & Government will participate in a two-day study trip to EU institutions and stakeholders’ organisations in Brussels, Belgium.

The group will meet with EU officials to discuss a number of matters related to the completion of the Banking Union, the review of the crisis management and deposit insurance framework, and the resolution legal framework, making such discussions extremely timely considering the recent cases in the US and the takeover of Credit Suisse by UBS.

Students will also engage on matters related to digital finance and the sustainable transition of the economy. Furthermore, students will gain insights from EU officials working on Next Generation EU (NGEU), the EU Recovery plan and the twin green and digital transitions, including some country-specific examples. They will also reflect on the evolutions of the NGEU framework in light of REPowerEU measures that followed the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis.

These discussions will benefit from the perspectives of both EU policy-makers and key stakeholders from the industry. Finally, the study trip will include a visit to the Irish Permanent Representation to the EU and a workshop session at the ECIU headquarter – which stands for the European Consortium of Innovative Universities in which DCU is a member.
